Big Dadda’s Wood
Big Dadda’s Wood handcrafts timber products from predominantly recycled and reclaimed wood. Making functional, useful items that respect the beauty of the timber used. Big Dadda’s Wood range includes handcraft timber coffee travellers in two sizes, refillable timber pens, shaving stands and safety razors. We hope these sustainable products will help people replace disposable plastic products in style! He also makes salt and pepper grinders and antique style pepper mills for the cooks and the chefs and stunning bowls and boards from amazing timber. The product range includes seam rippers, bottle openers, icecream scoops, keepsake boxes and will be expanding with plenty more beautiful and functional items. The look, smell and feel of real wood is respected and repurposed into products to be used and loved for years to come.
The face behind Big Dadda’s Wood – Michael
Michael handcrafts all Big Dadda’s Wood products in our suburban backyard in the South East suburbs of Perth here in Western Australian. He is Dad to three boys and partner to Susy. He was given the nickname Big Dadda when our oldest boy was 5 and he was his 6’3 step father! Nicknames around here stick and the first extension to the shed was named ‘Big Dadda’s Blue House’. The shed evolved with three more extensions into a man cave. As the number of tools and machines grows it looks more and more like a workshop than a man cave!
Michael has had two back surgeries and suffers from chronic depression. In 2016 he decided to pursue his woodworking hobby as a business. In December 2017, just as Big Dadda’s Wood was gaining momentum he started suffering from foot pain. He is still struggling now with neuromas and plantar fasciitis but is hoping to be back on his feet for the second half of 2018. We are very grateful for the ongoing support of Big Dadda’s Wood while he gets through another setback.
